This is a follow up to my post about using YouTube Editor as a formative assessment and research tool in the force and motion science unit.
I was really impressed with the fourth graders’ deep thinking and understanding about concepts such as push, pull, gravity, and others. In class they discussed what these look like in the real world. They also demonstrated their deep understanding of Newton’s Laws in various activities throughout the unit.
YouTube Editor proved to be a pretty reliable tool for demonstrating their understanding of the concepts. Students improved significantly in their search skills while looking for the examples they would add to their movies.
Below are examples from two of the classes. Remember, these were formative assessments that were never intended to result in a polished movie.
